WALK-A-THON MARCHES ON!

Saturday, June 19th was the date of the Conklin Center Walk-A-Thon. The weather was nice, but humid. Walker's came from all over Florida and the surrounding area. The festivities offered event t-shirts to all those who registered for the walk and had sponsor pledges of $10 or more, a pancake breakfast and prizes galore.

A special THANK YOU! goes to the DeLand Lions Club who provided all the volunteers, supplies and old-fashioned hard work for the pancake breakfast served at the Center. Breakfast was served for $3 each and more than 75 happy customers were served!

More than 35 walkers made up of Conklin Center students and graduates, Lions Club members, and community people walked the 3.2 miles around the Center. Prizes were awarded as follows:

Most Pledges Raised by a Student or Graduate - Best Western Aku Tiki Prize Package
First Place: Elmo Heaton, Graduate --- $370.00

Most Pledges Raised by an Individual - Perry's Oceanfront Resort Package

Most Pledges Raised by a Business/Community Group - Wet ‘N Wild Prize Package
First Place: Tracy & Kathleen of Daytona Beach Shores Chamber of Commerce --- $398.00
2 tickets to Seaside Music Theater – Daytona Beach
Second Place: Thomas, Mann of Homac Manufacturing --- $179.00

The guests numbered about 100 for the event and approximately $7,000 was raised for a terrific organization. The Center would like to thank all of those Lions Club members who participated, attended and raised pledges. Lions' support of all Conklin Center events is greatly appreciated!
