White Cane Awareness 5K Run

Saturday, October 9, 2004

The Florida Lions White Cane Awareness 5K went off without a hitch on Saturday, October 9th in the City of Ormond Beach. The course was a beautiful run along the river and through the streets of Ormond Beach surrounding the City Hall. The City of Ormond Beach, Samís Club and Brighthouse Networks were the sponsors of the event. Krispy Kreme doughnuts provided some tasty treats and the Ormond Beach Lions Club provided all the water and Gatorade, along with manning the water stations for the entire event.

58 registered runners ran the course, which was a great turnout considering the hurricanes that plagued the area for the previous 6 weeks. Alta Vista Sports measured the course and did the timing. Jacob did a great job as always!

Thank you to the volunteers who came out very early to make sure everything was in place for our runners. A special thank you to Stefan Sibley and the staff at the City of Ormond Beach for everything they did to make this event successful.

Awards were presented in each category and this race was the second in the Greater Daytona Grand Prix series. Thank you, Jerry, for all your help!

Race results were published in the Daytona Beach News-Journal and are available by visiting www.altavistasports.com.

Watch for details on next yearís race to be held in October 2005.
